Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 20, 2026

This policy covers what data I Quit My Dot Com collects, why, and what you can do about it. I wrote it in plain language because legalese is a waste of your time and mine.

What I Collect

Email Address

If you subscribe to The Dispatch (the newsletter), I collect your email address. That's it. No name, no phone number, no employer, no shoe size.

Your email is stored in phpList, a self-hosted newsletter platform running on the same server as this website. Your data doesn't leave my hosting provider. It isn't sold, rented, or shared with third parties.

Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics tracks page views and basic performance metrics. It's privacy-first — no cookies, no tracking across sites, no personal data collected. Cloudflare doesn't use this data for advertising or any other purpose. Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Google Analytics (GA4) is used for understanding traffic patterns and content performance. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect anonymized usage data. Google's privacy policy.

Server Logs

Like every website on the internet, the server logs IP addresses, browser types, and pages visited. These logs are used for security monitoring and are automatically purged. I don't analyze them for marketing or tracking purposes.

How I Use Your Data

Your email address is used for exactly one thing: sending you The Dispatch, a weekly newsletter about early retirement, living abroad, and working for yourself. That's the whole list.

I will never:

  • Sell your email to anyone
  • Share it with advertisers
  • Send you marketing emails for products I don't make (because I don't make products)
  • Add you to a list you didn't sign up for

Third-Party Services

The site uses a small number of external services:

  • Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and privacy-first web analytics
  • Google Analytics — traffic and content analytics
  • phpList — self-hosted newsletter management (your email stays on my server)
  • MochaHost — web hosting provider

There are no affiliate tracking scripts, no Facebook pixels, no retargeting cookies, no ad networks. The site doesn't run ads.

Cookies

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies. Google Analytics may set cookies for session tracking and analytics purposes. The phpList subscription form may set a session cookie during the sign-up process. This site does not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:

  • Access — Ask what data I have about you (it's just your email, if you subscribed)
  • Delete — Request that I remove your data entirely
  • Opt out — Unsubscribe from The Dispatch at any time using the link at the bottom of every email
  • Correct — Update your email address through the subscription management link in any newsletter

For EU/EEA Residents (GDPR)

The legal basis for processing your email is consent — you gave it when you subscribed. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing. If you want your data deleted entirely, email me and I'll handle it within 30 days.

For California Residents (CCPA)

I don't sell personal information. I don't share personal information with third parties for their marketing. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

Data Security

The site is served over HTTPS via Cloudflare. The newsletter platform runs on a secured server with restricted access. Email addresses are stored in a database that isn't publicly accessible. I take reasonable precautions, but no system is perfectly secure — if something changes, I'll notify affected subscribers.

Children's Privacy

This site isn't directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect data from minors. If you're a parent and believe your child subscribed, contact me and I'll remove their information.

Changes to This Policy

If I make meaningful changes, I'll update the date at the top and note what changed. For major changes, I'll mention it in The Dispatch.
